Tennis Doubles won by Shanghal; Easily.
Beurs in the interport lawn tenni-Bourbament are easy, for yesterday evening, Messrs. H. W. L. Toint and J. Elmore, re- presenting Shangha, disposed of Mess. R. N. Hancook and 8, E. Greep from the southern Colony, by winning three sets straight off theme score by which Mr.: Green, the previous day, had beaten Mr. Pott, though the play was by no means so one-sided, Baya tl China Prees of Saturday

Asia the singles match, the play was not of the highest order. Mr. Groen was quite a different man in the doubles court and seemed not quite on his game. It was fortunate for Hongkong's score that Mr. Hancock, who is the ideal build for a tennis player and bas learnt the game well, was in good form at the start. However, ho fell off after the first set and then Mr. Green came on a little.
On the day neither of the Shanghai men could be called brilliant, through Mr. Elmore brought off a number of excep tionally fine strokes and Mr. Toussaint's net play was dolight- ful to watch.

JAPAN'S MINISTER TO CHINA.
TWO NAMES MENTIONED.
Peking. Received June 2. Nothing definite has been decided regarding the successor to Mr. Yamaza, the late Japanese Ambassador, bat a report from Tokyo says that Viscount Uebida will be selected. He is just now out of office, but created an excellent impression when he was Minister to Peking. The appointment apparently lies between viscount Uchida and Me. Ijaio. The return of the latter would be hailed with satisfaction in Chinese and foreign circles.
