The following is from the China Preas of April 30 :---
"The importance of" the au nouncement, cabled by Reuter from Montreal on the 20th inst.,. that the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, starting from June, 11, will coase to take Shanghai a port of call on the outward voyage, soems altogether to have escaped public notice in this, the commercial metropolis of Chios. Primarily, according to the meagre information contained in the cable, the new service au- mouaced by the company is for the purpose of onerring the American nails to Manila A commencement will be made with the Empress of Russia, the latest addition to the company's leot, sailing from Vancouver on June 11. Thasteamer is to make Yokohama in ten daye, Kobe in eleven, Nagasaki in thirteen, Manila in seventeen, and Hong kong in nineteen. The retura voyage will be via Shanghai, Nagasaki, Kobe, Vancouver.
Unfortunately, no information is, eo far, available as to the actual scope of the new arrangement, but the presumption is that it will apply only to the two new steam ers-Empress of Asia and Em preas of Russia, and that the Empress of Japan, Empress of Indis, aud intermediate stoamer Monteagle will continue to call at Shanghai se heretofore.
