As owing to lack of sufficient dredg ing apparatus lack felt all over- the world-the

Chlef Engineer's Death. We regret to record the death, at Weihaiwei on April 18, of Mr. W. C. Morrison, chief engineer of the China Merchants' steamer Kungping. Soon after leaving Shanghai on April 16 Mr. Morri- son was taken ill and had to be landed at the Naval Hospital, Weihaiwei, death ensuing from

following-on- complications. paeumonia. Born in Renfrew,!. Scotland, in 1875, he joined the China Merchants in January 1899 and was promoted to chief engineer in January 1906. He had jaet returned from home leave and had only made one trip sïnce returning to duty.
