SATURDAY'S RUGBY.

The United Services defeated the Olub on Saturday in the last game of the season by two goals (10 points) to a gcal and adropped goal (9 points)-the same nayzow margin that was to raparate Eng- land, from land a few hours later. The fine weather brought out a good attendance of apecta- tola and the football was of the holiday order. Clean it was and strenuous, almost too afrenuous in fact, judging by the number of casualties. In the first minute Hegarty was knocked out by getting his head in. violent con- tact with Kellie's neck. A little later Bouse twisted his ankle badly and Coltart had to retire for a time with a strained, ten- don. In addition there were several minor injuries and the large number of casualties was regrettable in a friendly match at the close of a season which has been remarkable in ita freedom from accident. We were early also to learn that Lieut. Pym the Army Captain is in hospital with fever and was unable to turn out. He would have made'a great dif- ference to the score,

As we have said, the game was of the holiday, order and does not call for much description (or "comment" either). Both the Services' tries were scored by for- wards, Ferguson got the first,; playing a splendid bustling game throughout, and Momber got the s:cond because the refers failed to penalize Rouse for a Dag rant' broach of the rules. Both were betwзn the posts and were easily converted by Batson. For the Services Bonnett, Blegrove and Brown played very well, the latter taking scrum half! at short notice and making a very good job of it. Smyth also came into the team at the laat moment to replace Addington and did quite well whilst playing as thres- quarter,

Rouse dropped the Club's goaly

wall deserved his try," which was secured after a very interrating bout of passing backwards and forwarde ataongst the foe. In an exciting "etern chase'

"with Grenfell in hot paravit, he proved that he runs much faster then be appears to. It is a pity he is not stronger in defence; as he has the makings of a first class player. Ferguson was very good end Jasper Olark 08, as alwaye, superb, How quick be is and how he knows the game! Of the forwards Murdock was most prc- minent, but Hegaily and Wood- head also did weli.

It was a pleasant game although the weather was a trifle tro Wom for football. No fateful issue was at stake and it provided a capital "wind up" to this season's Bertes of excellent matches. The referes should have paid more attention to the ball going into the sзrummage. It seldom went in atraight

nearly and every time there were either "fest up" or the ball was followed in.
