THE SUFFRAGIST QUESTION. (To the Editor of the "Hong- kong Telegraph.")'
Dear Sir,
I read with much interest and amusement the letter of your correspondent "Herotic," and his ideas of chivalry in connection with the Militant Suffragette. I pondered long over his allusiona to Sir Galahad. Then I had a vision of the Sir Galabad of Ar thurian Romance: forsaking his, quest of the Holy Grail, with his knightly sword drawn, head- ing a horde of unsexed shrieking viragos; assisting them to desecrate churches, destroy works of art and set fire to private still property. Then I woke

I wonder if "Heratio" really believes those creatures, (I omnot call them women) are fit. to take part in the government of a great nation.
No"! Heretic," I still think the birch is the best solution to the problem. You ask where is the modest flower of English chi- valry? Well I think it is very much to the fore. If a mere man was guilty of any of the crimes and mean actions committed by the Suffragettes he would certain- ly be severely dealt with, and I do not think bunger-striking 'would h lp him. But because. they ma querade an wornon, (Have the mark) their crimes are over- looked.
All honour to women who are women, and I honestly believe that the great majority of English women, who are worthy of that great name, look upon the Militant! Suffragette with the contempt they deserve.
I am, yours faithfully,

Mr. Dennis O'Toole writes, mo as follows:-I was returning to my house early on Wednesda morning and had entered the garden, when I was startled by a heavy crash in the Bohinea bush. I turned round sharply and saw two great eyes fixed upon me, looking for all the world like a couple of glasses of crome de menthe. I remained quite still and returned its gaze for some time; till I suddenly realized, to my horror, that the huge owner of the eyes was noiselessly stalk- ing me. Knowing instinctively that flight was useless, I threw myself flat on my face and took cover behind a small palm in a pot. The enormous ost-like creature continued to advance stealthily and I was bath. ed in perspiration through fright. Only when the animal was crouching to spring did I out. I immediately lost con- cry aciousness; but my shouting must have saved me." I did not come to till daylight and was eurprised to find myself still alive in the garden with no worse cou-
