bombs for use of the revolution- aries. The search made was vory thorough, but entirely fruitless, nothing of an explosive nature being brought to light. As it was suspected that the ex- plosives were on board before the steamer left Shanghai detectives accompanied the ship and made search while en route, but were entirely unsuccessful in discover- ing anything of a suspicious nature.

Lifeboat Record. + 5% Now that the storms of winter are upon us, says a home paper, the Royal National Life-boat In- stitution opportunely issues survey of its work during the past year. The largest number of lifeboat launches took place in January, and the largest number of lives saved won in May. Durs ing that month 127 people were rescued.
