and as His Excellency has hitherto purposely avoided complicating the discussion by questions affecting your personal competency, he comes
in matters, which admit such immediate proof of a direct negative or affirmative, sanction your prolonging this correspondence beyond the time absolutely necessary for your dealing with the four simple points brought forward by the Governor. They
are
questions of fact merely - Did you or did you not obey certain orders - ? and as to the Contractors, did you or did you not neglect to pay them when specifically brought to your notice.

If therefore, within a reasonable time, you do not deal satisfactorily with the charges referred to, His Excellency in the event of such default, will not hesitate to lay your case before the Executive Council in accordance with his Instructions.
His Excellency considers that from this till Saturday next will afford you ample time for all requisite explanations, if you have any explanations to submit.
