Council - and that His Excellency is acting by advice of Council - in calling on me to answer charges - What else can I suppose - when I find your letter addressed from the Council Chamber and signed by you as Clerk of Councils!
I cannot if I am right in my belief have a fair trial before the Council and I shall with all respect - protest against any proceeding in the Council on these charges should it come to that.
What more can I add? I wilfully deny that I have ever or habitually disobeyed important orders of any description issued for my guidance - as set forth in charge one.
The Committee in their Report say that I admit the delays in sending forward the monthly Requisitions were my fault - I sought thereby to relieve subordinates from any imputation. If there was any fault it was mine - but I do not admit a fault.
In the same paragraph the Report it is said. I gave as a reason for not sending in Requisitions in due time that the form was defective but that I failed to convince the Committee.
