Finger Prints.

A great compliment has been paid to Scotland Yard by the re- quest of the Paris Chief of Police for information regarding the English finger print system, which M. Hennion appears to think of adopting. This is due to the fact that, while the French police possesses the finger prints of the Italian who stole "La Gioconda" they were not able to identify his thumb marks. Tho system introduced by Sir Edward Henry is an improvement on the Bertillon mthol, inasmuch as 4 "wanted" person can be traced by any finger or thumb mark which he leaves behind him.

The following figures! relating to the Province of Natsi have been taken from the Census returns for May, 1911, which have recently been published. At that time, the occupied lande of Natal | aggregated 10,333,112 acree, of which 1,019,764 acres were under cultivation, 220,411, acres were lying fallow, and:9,086,937 acres were used as grazing land. The various factory industries num- bered 350.
