Leave Scheme:

The following cironiar has heen issued to the captains, officers, and engineers of tho Indo-China and China Naviga tion S. N. Companies

As from January 1, 1914, the company proposes to grant six monthe home leave on half pay and a second class return pass- age home to such of the staff afloat as desire it after six years' continuous service, subject to a sufficient number of new officers and engineers being obtainable and also to the general exigencies us the service. It is understood. that the maximum fare payable on account of any mem ber of the staff shall in no case exceed the second class return fare to

pins and chief engineers

shall receive second class return passage by mail steamer, other grades second class passage by Tatermediate steamer, g

"Assuming that the necessary hands can be obtained it should be possible to release about forty to fifty men per annum on the basis of the present staff list..

The staff will realise that it is impossible in commencing a scheme of this nature to meet the wishes of more than a proportion of those who come early on the for leave. The managers roster for in settling this difficult and in- vidious matter will give full con- sideration to any equitable sug- geations put forward by the em ployees concerned.

The initial dillioulty, will automatically tend to disappear. The circumstance of an employee exceeding to any extent six years' service before getting his leave cannot be regarded as establish- ing a claim to special consider-

■ation of

any kind.
