for complaint. We understand that since the willing of an attempt has been made to improve the Department. Arrangements have been made that the Assistant Surveyor General is to be the medium of all orders and communications between the Surveyor General and the Subordinate Officers of the Department; We do not concur in this arrangement, for it follows that under such a system other of those Officers is almost unnecessary.
24. At the same time as regards the keeping accounts, records, there has been, since we began our enquiries, a manifest improvement. The head of the Department can now readily obtain a comprehensive and concise view of what is being done through his Offices, and consequently the Executive is kept better informed of what is necessary for the due administration of the large portion of the finances of the Colony passing through the Survey Department.
