ented? There are, of course, landlords and landlords, here in Hongkong as everywhere else. There are houses in Hongkong whose rents have been doubled within the past three years; there are many others whose rente hayO been raised gradually for very good reasons An to the first class of landlords, we explained some time ago how property alues were inflated in Hong kong. Owing to the disturbed conditions in China, Chinese efugees. have flocked into the Colony and large numbers of them have apparently remained. Consequently the pressure on the existing house accommodation has been very great Indeed, and Chinese landlorda-who, by the way, own probably nine-tenths of the house property in Hongkong have regarded it as a harvest time. Under this pressure of demand they had little difficulty in obtaining very much higher renta. Then come along the Chinese brokers in search of house, property for wealthy. Chinese from the mainland, and in the last few years, sales of
figures must have been very humerous indeed!
