On August 21, thero was lun ched at Purt Glasgow the steel scrow steamer Radjs, which is latended for pilgrim transport and general trade with the East. She is owned by the Siconvaart Mantsobappij "Nedderland" of Amsterdam The principal dimensious of the Radja are Longth, 470ft. breadth, 50ft; depth to shelter deck, 38ft. 3ip. Special arrangements have been made for the convenience of the pilgrims, All the decks aro of teak, and the vessel is lighted by electricity throughout. The Radju is fitted with wireless telegraphy, Weling patent davits, suitable for double-banked lifeboats, eto After the launch the vestol was taken in tow to Glasgow, where the machinery, consisting of triplexpansion engines and six single-onded marine boilers, will be fitted. The ship is to have ses speed of 133 knots.

The Newcastle steamer Cairn- ross the first cargo vessel other than the experimental ship. Cairns, Noble, and Co report that she has done exceed ingly well, and has quite fulfilled their expectations. She has pro ved to be a good 104-knot vessel, and has maintained an average aving in coal of five tone pers day when compared with her sister ship fitted with triple- expansion engines. The gearing had had the effect of a total. prevention of racing. The master of the vessel, in his report to the ownere, speaks vory highly of the ship's behaviour. The vessel is a typical cargo steamer of the tramp class, of the following dimensions: Length b.p., 380ft. Gin.; breadth, extreme, 5ift and depth moulded to the upper deck, 271t: Dia. She carries about 7,830 tons deadweight. On her much-disussed triala with her ister ship, the Cairngowan, her engines developed 61.76 revolu tions per minute, giving 1,570 a.h.p., and she consumed 27.8 tone of coal per day. She was constructed by Mesars, Doxford, Sunderland, and engined by Messrs. Parsons, Wallsend.-
