Interest accruing was

Calculated at 4 per cent, and while the Return is correct the figure in the Dispatch is not so.

5. In reference to the balance, which includes the interest on $450,689.58, there is now placed on deposit in the

Oriental Bank $40,000 at 4 percent per annum;

Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank $42,285 at 4 percent;

Chartered Mercantile Bank $30,000 at 5 percent.

$412,285...

This leaves $38,408.22 to meet the current expenses which have received Your Lordship's sanction, and which will be kept at the Bank with the unavailible deposits belonging to the Government.

I have the honour to be,

My Lords,

Your Lordships' most obedient,

Humble Servant
