no fresh business of any sort has to be recordoil, but clearances, though. far below normaal, have been better then might have been expected on a few days during the week when steamers were clearing for T-ingtau and Nor- thern ports where conditions.are reported to be all in favour of a good business, if it were not for the disorganisation of native finances brought on by the fight- ing in this neighbourhood. Some attempts have been made during the week at resuming auctions on reduced scale but they had to be abandoned owing to the apathy of buyera. As noted below, how- ever, some small private por- chases, for the most part resales, have been made in grey goods for Northern ports.
