NEW MUSEUM

FOR LONDON.

An Historical Medical Museum of extraordinary completeness and range of subjects, and officially connected with the forthcoming International Medical Congress, has been organised by Mr Henry 8 Wellcome at 54A,

more Street, W.

On the occasion of the opening ceremony an interesting historical address, outlining the evolution of medical science from the ear- liest times, was delivered by Dr Norman Moore, President of the Section History of Medicine of the Congress, who acted as obairman of the proceedings and formally opened the museum.““

Dr. Moore reviewed the growth of museums and drew attention: to the fact that in this country their inception had been always the work of private individuals unaided by Government grants. To this excellent procedent the Historical Medical Museum wâs no exception. It was a fresh example of the same spirit, but novel, in that a museum illustrat- ing the history of medicine had nover before been attempted in England. Dr. Moore described some of the principal exhibite, which ranged on the three floors of the museum, include illustra-

tions of medical and surgical treatment by primitive man in post ages and among Savage races of to-day up to the latest

research intocause and prevention and cure of, for example, sleep- ing-sickness, malaria and other ECourgea of mankind."
