capacity owned by the Living Clan, six of whom in conjunction with two others constitute the chief men of an association, which had organised a regular system of attack in the waters of Canton & Macao and in Mirs Bay. The attacks in Mirs Bay were made with the six Hakka gunboats and those in the waters about Stone Rong, Mony and Macao with small trading junks.

The men then in Victoria had been taken from the two junks captured in you ma tu, were of the number of six of the Leung Clan referred to; there were altogether about 180 pirates in sum, connected with Canton & Macao waters, and the Hong Kong, Canton men who recently planned the attack upon Showkewan were connected with this piratical association.

7. Having thus obtained this information Mr. Batten could procure many witnesses.

8. A few days afterwards Mr. Batten received further information to the effect that the four takajunks remaining of the six belonging to the piratical association, were lying in the vicinity of Macao.
