LAWN BOWLS,

In the Lawn Bowls Champion- ship, K. Molvor (Kowloon) has defeated T. Glendinning (Police) by 21 points to 19. It wasn very close game. At one time Glen- digning bad a load of 14 to 2, but his opponent made a fine recovery. and the players stood level at 19, Molver eventually running out.

MALINI'S MAGIC.

So much has been already said about Malini and bis wonderful tricks that a notice of his second public appearance at St. Andrew's Hall Inst evening must paturally be somewhat in the ualora of reiterated praise. The absence of elaborato paraphernalia, and the close range at which he works before his audience, call for the highest dexterity and cloances of execution.

Naturally his card tricks creat- ed great interest and a now ona seemed rositively marrellous. The wizard invited a member of the audience to select a card from the pack, replace it and then say what he had sslected. Malini then throw the pack against the wall and the chosen card adhered thereto. "Then from six different packs Malini made six gentlemen each choose the Queen of Hearta. Whether he actually made them do so is an open question, but at any rate, to the surprise of all, they did so.

Passing tumblers one through the others, seems merely an enjoyable pastime to Malini while the recovery of banknotes from the interior of eggs and lemous seems as easy to the magician as falling off a log.

In fact an attendance of about 150 people were held for well over an hour completely. mystified and naver. more so than when Malini tore the button off a gentleman's coat an preplaced it in one movement.

Fire at a Paper MIII. Damago estimated

at many thousand pounds was caused by a fire at the paper mill of Messra Charles Marsden and Sons at Barnsley.

THE BEST

tive of securing fab by means of explosives was becoming very common at Stanley,

The first defendant was fined $75, or in default one month, and the second was discharged.

Called to the Bar

Amongst the gentlemen called to the Bar at Gray's Inn on 4th inst. was Heng Kok Khoo, LL B., of London University, King's Scholar of the Government of the Straits Settlemente.
