The old style of cement bifocals with their disfiguring and annoying" dividing line has been supplanted by a new lens with two foci, the upper portion of the glass for distance and the lower for reading, ground from one single piece of glass.
You who wear two pairs of glasses may now use one pair instead. No one can tell that you wear bifocals. Nocoment to blister; no thin segments to lose off.

A Shortsighted View. We have often commented upon the shortsighted view which many foreigners are prone to take regarding the development of the Asiatic countries, viz., that by training the Asiatic peoples in Western industrial sciences, the Western nations are doing some thing which will ultimately prove suicidal to their own interests. These same people would doubt- less also say that it is unpatriotic on the part of an Englishman or a Frenchmen to drink to the toast of the continued prosperity and development of Germany, 88 so many of us have done this week. Rightly viewed, it is noth. ing of the kind, and we are prompted to refer to the subject again by the receipt from the Secretary of the Chamber of Com merce of a pamphlet containing a verbatim report of the speeches made in an interesting discussion On "Trade Developments in the Far East" which took place under the auspices of the London

This is so self-evident that it is remarkable that any prejudios should exist among thinking Europeans against European educational activitiesin China.

The Marconi Squabble, From Reuter's telegrams to hand it would appear that the end of the Marconi squabble is not yet, and that the matter has to be re opened in the House of Commons. The proposed resolution, which in itself is admirable, may not lead to anything more serious than an expression of opinion on the Ministerial side to the effect that the official Report was precisely what the House of Commons and the country generally expected, while the Opposition will doubtless express the pious hope that the fair and saintly name of British statesmen may never again be tarnished in such a manner. These are the official views, and they are, as already stated, precisely what was to be expected. We do not however, wish to infer for a moment that the evidence placed before the Committee was not eifted with judicial acumen and impartiality for there is every indication that such was the case. It was quite apparent, however, throughout the whole proceedings that the Inquiry was clearly the outcome of political antagonism much more than that the incor- ruptible integrity of Britsh. statesman should be manifestede
