BEG TO ANNOUNCE
that we can now manufacture on our premises the new Kryptok-Invisible bifocal Lens.
+
The old style of cement bifocals with their disfiguring and annoying dividing line has been supplanted by a new lens with two foci, the upper portion of the glass for distance and the lower for reading, ground from one single piece of glass,
You who wear two pairs of glasses may now use one pair instead. No one can tell that you wear bifocals. Nocement to blis tor; no thin segments to lose off.
Call and inspect this line. Kryptoks in regular or toric form.

Brazil Welcomes the Japanese, As would be seen from s Reuter's telegram recently some 3,000 Japanese emigrants arrived in South Amerios en route to Bra zil, where they intended, with the authorities' permission, to settle in the country and engage in various pursuits The "Literary Di- gest," commenting on the enter- prise, remarks on the contrast bet- ween Brazil and California in their attitude towards the Japanese. Brazil, it appears, offered "allur- ing terms to encourage the sett- lement of the Japanese labourers on its farm lands, and Japan was not slow to accept the offer, Should the experiment prove a success," she will send Brazil some 4,000 annually for several years to come. How anxious the Brazilian authorities are to attract Japanese settlers may be gathered from the inducements which they offered to a Japanese emigra- tion company at Tokyo. As re- ported by the "Jiji" (Tokyo), these inducements include: (1) a free: grant of 122,500 acres of land in the state of Sao Paulo; (2) the privilege of acquiring neighbour land as the Japanese colony grows; (3) the establish- ment of agricultural experiment atations and schools at the coat of the Government, and (4) the pay., ment by the Government of trans- portation for every immigrant.

This is doubt leas true, and therefrom it follows that, even under the greater freedom and with the greater facilities of the Republic, there is no present prospect of Chris...“ tianity becoming a national force. in China. Mission work will be carried on with grest freedom and less difficulty, but its resulte under the new regime do not promise, in our opinion, to be. more than proportionate to these improved circumstances.

Prices and Wagen We have still to wait tho Government's views on the subject for last month Mr. Baxton un- nounced in the House of Com- mone that he hoped the report of the inquiry into the cost of living in the United Kingdom would be published "bafore the end of the present spring." - Judging from the fact that the report has not yet been pubhshed the spring is unusually late this year. That the increase of wages has been fully offest by the. increase in prices is the conclu sion drawn by the Labour De- partment from the statistics. The puzzle which now, occupies the minds of statesmen and others is

It stands to reason, we think, that? : successive strikes for shorter hours, more money, improved conditions of labour, etc.; and the eracting legislation which has followed, have all raised the cost of production.
