A message from Johannesburg states that the mines of tho Wit watersrand alone crushed during February 2,100,137 tons of me, giving a total profit of £1,019,774, the average yield being 278. 11d., working costa 18s 3d., and profit 9s, Ud. per ton. The yield is 3d. per ton higher than for January, but coste bave increased by a similar amount, leaving the profit per ton unaltered. Con- trasting the above figures with those for the previous month, which had three working days more, there is a decrease of £03, 805.on a tonnage lower by 198,811 tons. The daily average profi-i bowever, for last month was £38, 120, or against £35,921 ip January. Compared with Febru ary of last year, which was a 29- day month, the nrofit shows BD increase of £112,582. :
