before the Court."
At the Police Court, this after noon, before Mr. F.A. Hazeland, four Chinese were charged with receiving a large quantity of paarls and five gold mounted rattan bangles of the total value of $1,500 knowing them to have beon stolon in Chinese territory.
Mr. Lewis, of Masera. Johnson, Stokoned Master; prosecuted and Mr. J. H. Gardiner defended.
Mr Lewis said that the circum- stinces which he would put ba- fore his Worship would enable
appreciate his many kindnesses and regret that he is leaving the colony. Mr. Dickson has been for some time at the hoad of an institution which has done much to foster trade in China, while he personally has done a great deal to extend the good feeling between his countrymen and ourselves. By a continua- tion of such relationship, trade will constantly expand, and there will unquestionably come a time when by meeting changing con- ditions, this country will more than rival the western nations in pro- duction and general commerce. In saying "Good. Bye" to Mi Dick- son I am sure we all sincerely hope ha will be followed by every happiness and enjoy the greatest of prosperity."
In a brief reply, Mr Dickson thanked his entertainers; he re- ferred to the four pleasurable years which he bad spent among them, and said that he looked forward to keeping the friendships that he had made during that period.
