The Hukuang Rallway, "It was recently announced that arrangements had been definitely estiled for financing the Hakuang Railway under the agreement en- ered into in 1911 between the Chinese Government of the day and an international com- bination of financiera representing America, Great Britain, Germany and France. The agreement provided for a 5 per cent. sinking fund loan of £6,000,000, of which five and a half millions were to be used for the construction (a) of a Government railway main line from Wachang, through Yoohow and Obangaba, to a point in the district of Yichang beion, on the southern boundary of Hanen, connecting with the Kwantung section of the Canton- Hankow Railway; and (b) of Government railway main line from Kuangheui in Hupeh, to fchang and thence to Kacichow- fu ia Szecbuen, to be known Qu the" Hupeh Seation" of the "Eze- chuan-Hankow Railway. Wo in South China are more particularly interested in the line which is to run from Canton to Hankow, a distance of 750 miles, and we welcome this definite evidence of a determination on the part of the Chinese Government to push on with an undertaking, the import- ance of which as a factor in the economic development of China cannot beexggerated.
