WE BEG TO ANNOUNCE
that we can now manufacture on our premises the new Kryptok invisible bifocal Lens.
The old style of cement bifocals with their disfiguring and annoying dividing line has been supplanted by a new lens with two foci, the upper portion of the glass for distance and the lower for reading, ground from one single plece of glass.
You who wear two pairs of glasses may now use one pair instead. No one can tell that you wear bifocals, Nocement to blister; no thin segments to lose off.
Call and inspect this line. Kryptoks in regular or toric form.

The Cinema. We have indeed visi ed one of the local Cinema Show *; and wo saw nothing in the pictures likely to prove harmful to adyono. In- deed wo saw much that was likely to prove instructive to young people, and interesting and en- tertaining to the adult mind. The instructive nature of this form of entertainment, Bishop Pozzoni. candidly admits. In our opinion the cinematograph is one of the best modiums for onlarging the minds of youth, and the oxhibitors of the pictures should he encouraged in every way to keep that in view. It is unreasonable, of course, to expect that the pictures should all be of an instructive nature, bat, we feel sure, that the owners of the shows know that it is in their beat interests not to exhibit. anything likely to prove harmful to the young. Occasionally, per haps, the bounds of good taste are overstepped, but, as we have stated, owners of cinema shows will find it best for all concerned to simat being "tɔanice.” ràther than a
"little naughty."

Peace or War?
A London correspondent states that the ambassadors of the Powers have had, in view. the contingency of a failure to agree, and it is more than pro able that
CN is from five to, ix times as effective as pure carbolic acid-list coin case of extreme nece sity they will intervene, in prince, to monstrated by means of the Hygienic Laboratory Phenol Co-efficient Method of
permitting a further apl to the the U. S. Public Health and Marine Hospital Service—while everybody who arbitrament of arms. Even the onca tried it in the horse has found it far preferable to poisonous acids and chlorides which do not do the work as well and which era dangerous to health and life.
Strong as it is, CN is not dangerous to life. It is safe to use, safe to have o the house. Fatal qucidents need not be feared where CN is used. Casual ties ARE liable to ocsas with some other preparations sold as disinfectants.

CN solution will not injure the skin, but will really, soften and whites it, There is po necessity for anyone to uro fluid which irritate the bands, canving thm to smutand burn.

CN does not affect inetal, and for that reason can be used freely to disinfete and deodorize toilet basins, einks and other pinces with pipe connections..

And yet CN is not expansivo, It is contrale that it should be ed for pac, and a little of it goes a long way." The cost, in fact, can hardly be considered.

intervention of the Powers may pot imply however that peace will be immediately restored; but it is most sincerely hoped, for the sake of the non-contestants as well as the the soldiers, that in ternational jealousies will not fan the embora into a huge conflagras tion in Europe. While England, Italy and France have despatoh warships to the Dardanelles, German cruisers have been order ed not to take part in any naval demonstration. Even the Powers do not see eye to eye over this Balkan problem and the solution is not yet in sight.

The Salt dabelle.
But it is the financial side of Mr. Chang's scheme that will be looked upon as its essential fea ture, and here he finds no difficul ty in setting forth a roseate picture of its prospects. His wide experience and a detailed knowledge of the people, leads him to conclude that the average per capita consumption of salt is at least 12 catties (16 lbs. yearly. (Mr. Hsiung Hsi-ling, the ex- Minister of Finance, pat it at 13. catties, which is practically equal to. the known comumption in Formosa Multiplying this by 44,000,000, he makes "the whole amount of annual consumption of salt in China" 52,800,000,000 picula, but this figure is subject to correction na Mr. Chang bas certainly placed the population too high. Cost of working the salt he estimates at 50 cents & pical, and he allows andther 50 cents for administrative expenses. To ibia $1 gross cost he adds an other $3 taxation, which is to be reduced in the fourth year to $2.50, it being hoped that by then markets will have. recover. ed from the effects of the revolu tion. (Thero-rates of taxation, it may be remarked, are two or three times as heavy do those rul- ing in India-33-a pical equals, roughly a rupeosa mound). The average selling price to the car rior companies would thus be $4 or $3.50, so that the final retail Belling price nood not advance beyond its present figure, which averages about $50 picul, finnd still the annual income from thờ | tax'would reach an aggregate of $10,000,000 or $130,000,000- or about double that reported for 1011
