PRIZE DISTRIBUTION.
THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPU, SATURDAY, JANUARY 25, 1913.
Olans II:-Ho Kom Tong Scho- larship (Senior) ($35) Chan Kun Pan; Lugard Boholarship ($30 per year for two years) Sham
(Continued from Page 5) held in the beginning of the pre- -sent-month, 454 pupils were pre-Wai Yan."
sent, and of these 86 percent made more than half the maripuum number of marks.
Interesting Comments. The following remarke are sag. gested by an inspection of the examination papers:-Class 2 showed a decided, weakness in History and Diotation. In Class 4 Arithmetic and Algebra were much below the standard requir- ed, More attention should be paid to Grammar and Geography in both divisions of clase 0. In these classes Geometry and Alge. bra were introduced for the first time. Good results were obtained in the latter, but in the former more than half the pupils, in each claas, fuiled.
In the 2 divisions of Class 7, the tests in Dictation and Arith- matic were too severe. The same
remark applies equally to the Arithmetic in Classes 8c (1 & 2). There is a marked improvement
the English Colloquist and Composition in all classes, and the papers in Translation were above the average. In all three branches of drawing the great majority of the papers in classes 1. 2. & 3 were very good! T6 students entered for the Oxford Local, Ex- ninations, viz. 3 seniors 4 Jun- iora and Proliminary.
More interest has been "isken in athletics since the arrival of Mr. J. Smith, and as a result more pupils entered for the VATIONS Dxents at the Annual School Sports and a fair pumber of successes rowardod them. The Football Club under. Mr. Sinith coaching is doing well, though hampered by the want of a playing field within reasonable distanco. In Decomber team travelled to Canton and engaged in a friendly game with the atadonis of the Christian Cllege. The Bathing and Swim- ming Party, with Mr Melatyre in charge, went out weekly through out the Sumner. Many boys this learned the art of swimming, and at the close of the season aquatic sports were held and prizes, con- tributed by the Prouident and Elon. Secretary, were eagerly computed for.
Our thanks are tendered to Messrs. Io Kom Tong, Lau Chu Pak, Fred J. Malton for Scholar ships, and to the Directors of the Tang Wah Hospital, the Com-
