That such is wise conclusion and a sound curse to adopt, who will deny ? None but those who have perverted ideas of colonisation, arrogant ideas of the true coursƏ of a nation's development or absurd notions of what constitates true greatness. Though details are not yet to hand, it is doubtless, the case that the assassination of Prince Yamagata is closely con- nected with the present unreat in. Japan regarding this military question and it is doubtless e drastic rejoinder to the Prince'a advocacy of military extension.

The Tramway Boycott. Moreover, we consider, it establishes pretty olearly the political character of the boycott. It may be that its origin rests largely with the money changers, who must do a large and profitable business in exchanging into Chinese sub-coin the Hongkong notes paid to the wage-earngis in the Colony; but it is possibly these men who are mainly responsible for giving to the demand of the passenger carrying companies the aspect of an affront to the new Republic What would the boycotters say were employers to pay wages in Chinese currency? We all know what they would say, and it simpl goes to show the disingenuo and dishonesty of the excuses which have been given for the boycott.
