Exit "Bull Moose." What has been "called " the Roosevelt Conspiracy" to destroy President Taft has succeeded, but the American people have been sensible' and a veritable landalide for the Democratic can lidate for the Presidency in the uutcome of a record-breaking poll on the fifth. The broad den igorous grin of Bull Hoos8" will be writ large over the pages of American journals to-day. Mr. Roceovelt, though denied a third term of office, is evidently well tisfied with his work, for he has wired bis congratu istions to the Democratio leader. Had he not entered the. fold and split the Republican camp into two parties, which are now termed, for convenience sake," Conservatives" and "Pro- gressives," it is generally con ceded that Democracy as personi- fied by Governor Woodrow Wil- son would have had to wait yet

while for office. Governor Wilson, who will fill the President- ial chair next year, is a man who commands the greatest respect of ll parties. His record is worthy of the traditions of the office he is bout to hold and his manner. of conducting his side of the fight, in marked contrast to the irration- , street-corner bickering of his opponents, has doubtless won him many a vote from the opposition

The American Election. Tue election of Dr. Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat, is not, of course, indicative of a radical. change in the politics of the country. With both Mr. Roos" ovelt and Mr. Taft in the contest the Republican vote was badly. livided, and this has given to Dr. Wilson a number of States which re normally Republican. Not-

withstanding that there was

known to be some loss in the Democratic vote-part to Mr. Roosevelt and the rest to Mr. Taft

it was predicted with con-- fidence a week or so before the lection that the split in the Re-

character as would give to Dr. Wilson a comparatively easy victory. The expected has hap pened, but seeing that the De mocratic majority in the Senate is not more than five, Dr. Wilson is not likely to find it plain sail- ng for the next four years, anless be Һая the support of the Roosevelt party. Mr Roosevelt came out as "the people's candidate" against the alleged corruption, and the social and economic backwardness of the two old parties. When Dr. Wilson was nominated as the Democratic candidate, however, Mr. Roosevelt was confronted.. with a rival na progressive as himself, and the feeling widely

prevailed indeed that Dr. Wil

sone's candidature would prevent the formation of Mr. Roosevelt's Third Party and that the Progros-- sive Convention would never be held. Those expectations, how- ever, have been falsified by the events, and the election returns, us far as they are yet available to us,': -how that the Third Party is ona which may have to be reckond with in future political osm- paigua,
