Ireland, I have now the honour to report the arrival here on

The 11th Instant of Inspector Coney with the remaining 25 men, being balance of the 45, procured from Scotland.

9. I have also to report the receipt from the Crown Agents by the Mail arrived on the 11th Instant of the several agreements made with these men. It appears that $40 per month, as I presumed would be the case, had been fixed as the pay of each Constable, together with a bounty of £15 before embarkation.

3. I have personally inspected the first and second batch, and so far as regards age, appearance, physical strength, and character, I consider that the Colony has every reason to be satisfied with the selection made. I am also inclined to think that there is a better chance of their conducting themselves properly than some of their predecessors.

4. At the same time it is only just to the latter to remember that they were exposed to far greater temptations in one direction than are likely to assail the new men, because every European formerly enlisted was at once solicited to receive frequently more than the equivalent of his Government pay.
