Rescue Work in Mines. A bulletin issued by Mosars, Siobe, Gorman, and Co. (Limited) contains details of several mining Straits accidents in which the "Proto breathing apparatus has been of service. These includo collieries belonging to the North Stafford- shire Colliery Owners' Associa tion, the Clifton and Kersley Coal Company (Limited), the Abram Coal Company, and Messrs. Fletcher, Burrows, and Co., who testify to the value of the apparatus in resoue opera- tions. Particulars are also given of work accomplished by the ap paratus at the Hulton, Maypole, and other colliery disasters.
An Empty Treasury. Daring the first reading of the Bill for the examination of title $1,800,051.88 deeds a delegate of the Chiness
Government explained that the Treasury was empty and that the amount realized by the sale of National Bonds was not sufficient for the needs of the Government. Consequently Teai Cheng-pu desired to institute investigations of old and new title-deeds with a view to imposing a tax of two per cent thereon. In reply to member the delegate added this was a special temporary tax which would not affect the poor. There- upon the Bill was referred to a Ooramittee. N. C. D. N."
