Resignation of Chinese Finance

Minister

Harung has endeavoured to conciliato the opposition by soeking a modification of the terms of the proposed contract. The Bankers, however, are unre lenting and show no readiness to grant a further advance of ten millions sterling, Tho roign Ministors have explained to the Premier that the conditions under which the International of bankers are will; group ing to make a loan are imposed beonuse it is necessary to satisfy European bondholders in order to maintain the credit of China in Europe, and that there is no desire on the part of the Inter- national group or of the Govern ment interested to inflict hurd ar annecessary stipulations or totake advantage of the present position

in China and tliersby to secure financial control of the country but that it is entirely a matter of – meeting the requirements of the European money-markets, where money is tightor than it used to be, while the situation in China lends itself to public distrust.
