I have now the honour to enclose for Your Lordship's information a statement of the Archdeacon's services in China during the last twenty years.
It only reached me from Canton last night, and I observe that the Archdeacon therein makes no special application, which is an accidental omission.
It should be remembered that in addition to those services the Archdeacon has been a traveller in North China and Mongolia and is likewise shown by most visitors to this part of the world to be the best informed guide to all the Antiquities and Historical monuments of Canton and its neighbourhood. He has given much time to the study of almost everything calculated to illustrate the social habits and peculiarities of the Chinese - whom he is much liked and respected - as he is invariably kind and considerate in his treatment of them.
