With reference to Sir R. MacDonnell's despatch No. 938, of the 2nd Feb? I request you will cause Dr. Adams to be informed that looking to the number of candidates for the office of Colonial Surgeon at Hongkong, I regret that I cannot hold out to him any hope of compliance with his wishes.
