LOG BOOK.

Plans for 80,000-Ton Battleship.

Plans for a 30,000-ton battle- ship are already on paper at the Navy Deportment in expectation of the allowanco by Congress for two now battleships. The plans call for a ship about as large as the New York, with a orniser like the Olympia, Admiral Dewey's flagship at the battle of Manila, added to hor bulk, says an Amer- ican

paper.

If Congress permits, the new shipa will present some unusual features. Possibly they will have ftoon-inch guns, eight for each ship, which will be the most powerful ordnenco afloat in any navy. Effort will be made to provide light armour protection far below the waterline to guard against the projectiles of the new cannon torpedo. It is suggested that a part of the weight-currying. capacity of the bull be given up to deck armour thick enough to resial bomba dropped from seroplanos.
