Until a satisface tory solution of problems of this sharacter indicated above is offer od there will be a justifiable hesi- tation to make the change. While coal remains in favour as fuel for steamships Great Britain occupies a position of absoluto independ ence. Her coal beds are ample to meet all requirements. Suez, and large oil arens are tó ba developed in Turkey. It is stated that at prosent the Red Sea are i is producing about a quarter of a million tons of crude oil a year, but that amount will soon bo increased and an oil refinory will be set up on the Egyptian coast. Meanwhile large quantities have beon sont to be refined in Asiatio refineries.
