£800 per annum was and is the Salary attached to the Office. Dr Murray, however, received only £700 per annum, whilst enjoying the privilege of Private Practice. Vide letter to Secretary of State No. 51 of 8th May 1866, and Secretary of State to Governor No. 61 of 29 October, 1866. £800 per annum was always borne on the Colonial Surgeon's Salary from 1st January 1859.
