LOG BOOK:
Compulsory Wireless.
The Wireless Ship Act which
o into operation in the United atoa on July 1of last your geome to have worked very smoothly.. A full year had boon given to ` allow oconn passenger steamships and the wireless companies to got ready for it. The result was that there was ample timo in which to provide the necessary. equipment. In addition, there was gonoral willingness to com- ply with the now law. In his annual report the Commissioner of Navigation notes that there have been only three cases in. |which_non-compliance has beon. alleged, un that those are awaiting the decision of the Courts. One case was that of.. the American mail stoninship Zulia, which oloared from Mayaguoz, Porto Rico, for New. York, with a crow of 63 men and 31 passengers, The parts of the wireless apparatus wore on board, but had not been put together, and there was no operator. The did not suppose that Mayaguez plon of the owners was that they
was a port of the United States, and that they intended to put the apparatus in emission at New York. They wore asked to give a bond för £1,000, the maximum penalty.'
In the case of another American steamship, the Lexington, tho allegod infraction of the law arose “in' a curious way. At
