Wages In Japan. Investigations made by the Osaka Charaber of Commerce show that the wages of workmen during November wore not very different from those of the pre- cading month, but they ropre sent a startling advance upon the wages paid in the corresponding term last years. For example, the wages of rice refiaers, copper gold and silversmiths and stone mucous and some workert have advanced' between 20 per cent. und)50 per cent, and the wages of workmen in food canneries have gone up 70 per cent. On the other hand, the wages of work- men in match manufactories, tin- smiths, and bricklayers have de- clined owing to the prevailing dullaess in these lines of busi-
