Japan's Foreign Trade:
No one will disputo the fact, anys the "Tokyo Ascht," that Japan's economic development in the past has been very remark ablo, but there are indications that the progress has more or less been checked of late years. This is especially noticeable in foreign trade. Up to the end of August importe had shown an increase of 86 million yen as against last year, but this increase should mainly be attributed to the special conditions brought about by the new tariff. As for exports, on the other hand, the increase had 20th Oct., 4 r., only amounted to Y900,000. It
may may be argued that last year's. export trade was exceptionally
something like 40 million yen 88 compared with 1900. Although the truth of this contention can hardly be denied, a glance at the trade returns for the last for years will show the slow progress of Japan's export trade, as will be seen from the following figures: 1908Y423,704,000 1007432,412,000
