New Lighthouse on Elgar Island. The construction has been commenced of the new lighthouse on Elgar Island, and it is expected that the light will be exhibited by April noxt. The light is to bo similar in character to the in- shore lights already established and will be visible about twenty milos.

The Port of Tairen. ---

During June 157 vessels of 219,529 tous entered the port of Tairon and 156 vossels of 215,534 tons cloared. Of those 200

· vessels of 314,207 tous wero Japanese, 22 vessels of 03,980 toms were British, 20 vessels of 44,799 German, and 20 vessels of 10,265 tons Chineso.

A Sunken Russian Destroyer. The sunken vessel discovered in the son four miles south of Tiger's Tail Lighthouse has been ascer- teinod by divors to be a Russian destroyer of the Yamaliko typo, and about 300 Tons displacement, The vessel is a breach aboút 7 foot long in her starboard side amidships, which is thought to have caused her to founder. Her guns, torpedo tubes, and other armaments are uninurt and several gans and torpedo tubes have bean recovered. The hull of the vossel· in oxpected to be relloated shortly.

The New Tungwah The Norwegian steamer Pro- minent has been taken over by the China Merchants' Steam Naviga- tion Company and lins bean ie- named the Tangwah. Tho slip Jos sailed for Hakodato in cons mund of Captain J. A. Prutt.

- A collision occurred on June 22

between the Hansa Line steamer Itheinfels, hound for Shangliai from Hamburg, and the. Britishi steunier Redwood.. The collision occurred outside of Flushing. The Redwood which was struck on the stem, sank, the crew boing saved and the Rheinfels was en- abled to proceed to Antwerp whenco, after temporary repairs, she returoad to Hamburg.

Married on a Hilltop. Miss Eva Hunter, a New York heiress, and her fiance, Mr.. Bay- lies Walker, a young engineer, travelled two thousand miles to California to be married by noon-| Tiglit recently on the lonely hilltop where they became engaged two years ago.
