I have received Sir R. MacDonnell's despatches No. 917 + No. 918 of the 9th January, reporting the grant of five months leave of absence to Chief Justice Smale.
As it is evident that Mr. Smale's health rendered it necessary, I have conveyed to you my approval of the indulgence granted.
