CHOLERA IN SIAM.

THE DISEASE POSSIBLY DUE TO FISH POISONING.

In a recent issus, tlio Siam Observer" offers some observn- tions upon the possible cause of tho poriodical provalence of cho- ora in Bangkok. It says: Tho fact that cases of okolora occur during the months of Novembor, Decoinber and Jan uary, when tho climatic conditions are simply idoal and when the rivers and canals are full of rain- water from tho mountains of the North, would seem to point to theso cases being caused by the consumption of fish-currying-soine kind of poison in their system st that time of the year. It is now well recognised that some kinds of fish in Europe cause serious! illness when oaten during cortain months of the year und we believe there is a public notifi [27 cation warning people against

We think it is clem that the bad effects in this instance were. the result of partaking of fish, which though quito sound to all external appearance must have been impregnated with poison. It may be quite possible that naturo provides some fish with a kind of poison, perhaps during the time of spawning, as a means of protoction. We think that this is a subject which the authorities might woll take in hand if only at first with the preliminary ob ject of collecting statistics and appointing a medical.commission to consider the mattor in its re lution to the health of the people.

ANCIENT RECORD OF THE FLOOD.

WRITTEN ON CLAY FOUR THOUSAND YEARS AGO. The discovery of a tablet on which was writton part of a Baby- lonian acosuut of the Flood form- ed the subject of a very interest- ing lecture at the Victoria In stituto, London.

Thio tablet was discovered by Horr Hilprecht in a low stratum in what was known as Tablet Mill, at Niffer. This place is identified with Calvoli, one of Nimrod'scitios. On both sides there had been writ-

this fragment of clay there were written words of intense interest and im portance, Pieced together, with the obliterated worda supplied, a free translation would run this:-
