For one try to Christ's Hospital but from his age he is unable to enter before the latter part of February. For a London day school, I am endeavouring to procure a presentation to another Public School;

hoping to secure entry to the Royal Naval and Royal Naval School for my eldest daughter.

Effectually to obtain these great boons it is absolutely necessary that I should remain in England and as in all probability it will occupy me much time to accomplish my purpose, I shall be obliged if the Secretary of State will suffice to grant me an extension of a month's leave of absence, or under existing instructions I shall have to leave England the early part of next month.

I have the honour to be, Sir, your obedient servant,

H.G. Thomsett
Factor, Marine Department, Hong Kong
