A native high-class restaurant, namod Ya Hau-yuan, situated (established by Tientsin inor- in Chokiong Road, Shanghai,

chants), on receiving from Tientsin that the northorn branches were bankrupt, sont their representatives to the Noo Shon-yuan Bank to withdraw their deposits, but the manager of that bank inquired why they wanted to take out their money, when there were so many transactions going on botwoon them in past years. They then asked the man- agor if he was not informed of the bankruptcy in the North, and if he was, whether the bank in Shanghai took any stops to safo guard the interests of its patrons.

Ting Chis-orh, manager of that bank, then requested Mr. Pao Yi, Magistrato of the Mixed Court, to inve him arrostod, but Mr. Pao Yi replied that he had no power to try this enso, and took the manngor with him to the instructions how to deal with the

caso.

Messrs. Kwoi Chun, Tion Pao yung and Sun-Kong-ma, Magis trates of the native city and Mixod Court, respectively, were appoint od by the Shanghai Taotai to investigate the accounts of that Bank; as a result of their in- vestigations, they found that it possessed only soven thousand inols in cash. All the accounts books have been sont to the Chii- noso Chamber of Commerce.

It is reported that the liabilition amount to over ten million tagle and that the majority of the des positors are Chinces officials; no foroignors are involved,
