In illustration of what I mean let me quote or precis despatch &c. addressed to me
5 July 1847 - I am notified of suspension from Office pending pleasure of Her Majesty's Government
3 Aug 1847 - I am notified by Hongkong Government that my Office is abolished from 30 January 1848
Having reference to my suspension, the Governor thinks that under the circumstances it is desirable that I should await a decision, which might be looked for by the next mail.
28 Nov 1848 - received instructions relative to my suspension from Office, which had been received from the Colonial Office by the mail then in transit.
23 Dec 1848
