Dr. W. W.-Pearse contidued to act as Modi- cal Officer of Health nutil Dr. Francis. Clark's return on March 4th. Dr. Peame thereupon relieved Dr. Macfarlane as Assistant Medical Officer of Health in Kowlons, the latter going home on leave'. \
Owing to the death of Dr. W. Hunier it was decided to apprist Dr. Macfarlane.to succeed him as Gorerament Bacteriologist. He will therefore not return to this Department. The Government, acting on the advice of the Board, decided not to replace Dr. Macfarlane, the former Second Assistant Medical Officer of Healib, and at the same time the number of Sanitary lospectors was reduced from 18 to 24, as it was considered that the work of the spécisi Plague Staff might now be undertaken by the District lospectors in addition to their other dation.
2. The year has been singularly free from epidemic disease except that the number of cases of ostetic fever was above the avenge. Further details on this subject ap: pear in the joist report of the Principal Civil Medical Officer and Medical Officer of Health,
