I am directed by the Earl of Kimberley to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated the 14th February, and I am to inform you in reply that his Lordship is fully aware that your present state of health is the immediate result of your persevering discharge of your duties.

When the arrangements referred to in Mr Herbert's minute shall have been made, it will be necessary to inform the Acting Governor.

It may be rather difficult to determine the precise date at which you will be fit for application to public duties, and that although the leave you now apply for would not under ordinary circumstances be justified, yet having regard to the cause of your illness, and the length of time during which you have served without leave in tropical climates, Lord Kimberley has much pleasure.

His Jan 20/71
