Mr. Eft explained to the court that the

Capt. Homes said that he had the ship searched for chandu every day on the way down from China. Everything possible was done. The hold where the chaudu was found was not searched because it was practically impossible get at it. The passengers had no areas in the holds. Every part of the ship to which they bad access was searched carefully.
Questioned by Mr. Baddeley, the captain said that the daily search was conducted by European officers and laves from two to three hours. The holds were never saaiched.

Gompertz, the Paisne Judge, heard evidence in the case in which the Kung Woo firm of Wing Lok Street sued the Ying Tin Chibong firm and another for the sum of $71,759.34. heing the balance of an account stand between the patties and agreed to by the defendants. Mr. C. Grenville Alabaster, barrister-at-law, (instructed by Mr. W. E. L. Shenton, of Messrs, Dancon, Looker and Deacon's office), represented the plaintiffs and quite a number of witnesses were called to give testimony in
the case,
Mr. Alabaster moved for a judgment. He tated, that, a specially endorsed writ had been ved on the grit of January this year, whilst on the 5th of the same month a writ of foreigo.attachment had been granted, under Section 453 of the Code, as the partics against whom action was being taken were outwith the jurisdiction of this Court. Two sums of $4,000 and $1,000 respectively had been pid toward the satisfaction of the debt."
