After the minutes of the last annual and extraordinary meetings had been read and sign- ed and the notice convening the meeting read, The Chairman made the following speech }^
The report is unusually fell of detail but there are a fow points upon which I should like to touch. The sum which you will be asked to vote to the sinking fund for the redemption of debentures bas been calculat ed so that with annual apportionments of the same amount, the debentures can be redeemed on the due date. The sum of $30,000, which it is proposed to pass to Re- serve will bring up that account to $50,000 this will all be invested in the Estate. Of the $10,000 voted last year some $10,000 was spent in relief of capital expenditure up to 31st December, 1909, and about $10,000 was spent in the purchase and installation of machinery. This year, of the $30,000 for which the Directors ask, $23,000 will be used for development during the year, and about $6,000 will be required for the erection of a new Lirying Stora.
The detailed survey of the cultivated portion of the Estate which was made during the year, showed that the area under cultivation was much less than we had thought it to be A glance at the plan of the Estate I'will, I kink, convince you that the peculiar shape of our land makes it difficult for anyone to estimate the aren; and it was not possible, until a survey was made, to arrive at any cor rect figures regarding the area of the Estate.

2. That the sum of $1,070 be placed to s sinking food for the rededinjitoa of debentures. 3. That the sum of $30,000 be transferred to reserve.
4. That the sum of $1,000. be allocated as bonus to employees.
5. That the balance of $4,979 19 be carried forward to next accoust..
Mr. Elliot seconded and the motion was car ried.
יי,
Ms, A. Gentle was then re-elected x" director and Messrs. Derrick and Co, audňom.
Mr. Elliot thought considering the company was doing so weit and considering the extra wurk tauing on the directors since the splitting ofthe shares, the directors' remuneration should be increased from $1,500 10 $3,000.
The Rev, NJ, Couvreur seconded this and it was carried with applause, Mr. Jago returning thauki.
A
he next point which I have to mention is disease. The Directors have made arrange", ments to secure the services from time to time of the Mycologist at Lauadron Estate, and i ordor that our Manager might become conversant with the most up-to-date melbed of putting ao Estate in a sanitary con dition, he visited Landdion during the year. Mr Muchell, the Lunadron Mycologist," bas reported most favourably apts the measures. laken on our Estate, and we hope that by the end of this year the Estate will be clear of Fomes. A tree by uree, examination is being made and a great sumber of trees have been opened up and the 100ts dressed with lime During last year we spent fro,643,00 this work, and we expect that for the current year $16,000 will be required. These are not small sums bus the cost will be more than justified in the end, In the last report it was stated that the trees. in tapping numbered 14,380 and in this year's report the number given is 11,000. Up til quite recently do systematic record was kept of trees which were blows down or were killed by white ants or which died of dise ise. Of the 386 trees in question no doubt some died from those causes, but Lattibure the chief decrease. That the directors be and are hereby to a more accurate census of the ices.
The last point of reference is the Manager. Mr. Marray has been with us now for two years and we have nothing but satisfaction to express regarding bis work. The Directors propose to mark their sense of this by a substantial bonus, Mr. Murray will go on leave in the autumn of this year if we are able to make arrangements for some gap to take his place.
You winxpect me to say something abuat the esumated production fur the current year. This we put a gu, hs, being un increase of 23 per cent, on the present year's production The pager anticipites bringing in only some bo pew trees during the year, but a spbstaclial increase of production may be ex- pecled from the old trees.
I now formally move that the report and accounts for the year ending 31st January, 19:0, be and are hereby adopted,
DISCUSSION,
Mr. Elliot seconded, the adoption of the report and accounts and asked whether the shareholders could be informed what proportion of the Bapa pounds odd of rubber which ap. peared in the accounts as in transit and store. had been sold and what proportion had been put in at Sa per pound.
The Chairman was understood to say thai, a very small proportion was yet unsold,
Mr. Kemp said that about 2,300 lbs, sheat and 8,co lbs scrap were unsold.
Mr. Elliot iequired if any forward contracts had been made. The Chairmpo replied" "ao,' bat added that in order to settle their accounts for the year they had sold 120 cases of last year's crop at 8/4j.
The Rev. N. J. Couvreur then called atten- sion to what appeared to be a mathematical error in regard to the average yield per tree per tapping, which as compared with the average Pield par tree per acnum, seemed to show that the treas were only tapped 66 days in the year. The Chairman 'replied that roughly they werk tapped every other day.
-
Eventually Mr. Kemp said that he could pro hably explain the matter of the figures to the speaker if he would consult with him.
The method by which the total of 437 acres was arrived at, reported in our flest report, was to take records of the various plantings, but this did not allow for various fields which had dropped out of cultivation, or bad been replanted. All along Mr. Bratt's estimate of the area actually under cultivation
The same speaker, also caited attention to was less than from the bocks we made it out to the fict that whereas by the Anicles of Asso-i be. Acother cuatributing cause to the shortage cintian ere third of the directorate retired an was that the statutory grants for Hidden Tree Hually only one director was retiring now, and sure Estate showed à larger area' by some eƒ | as the directorate was five two would appor to acres than the actual survey proved to be the be nearer one third than one. CAD. The Deti'result, after careful investiga- tion is that Mr. Brait bas'to plant up for us between 36/37 acres,
It was pointed out that Mr, Plumpton was away and the speaker said he did not wish to contest the point, he merely brought it forward, PUBLICITY.
Mr. Elliot then brought forward the point
Mr. Macbean supplemented this by. vote of thanks to the manager who had done so well. Mr. Jago in replying on 'baball of the Manager said this menung was a record one for Singapore and the day was a record ons for rubber.
The meeting thed resolved itself into an 'exi traordinary meeting and ten- Chairman, moved,
