August 4th 1871.

My Lord,

I have been honored with a Letter from M. R. H. Meade expressing your Lordship's regret that you could not comply with any request of the 44 " " "Althus applying to be allowed two years additional Service in aid of my pension from Hongkong - Where during the whole period of my Service in that Colony I had abstained from Claiming the yearly Leave on full pay : I shall not again advert to that Application.

With respect to my Claim for the two thirds of the full cost of a passage - from China Shore. I fear that I did not make it sufficiently clear that the Members of the Council of Hong Kong had, each in writing, unanimously concurred in recommending me for a full passage Allowance to be disbursed

The Right Honorable

The Earl of Kimberley

Downing Street.
