THE VOYAGE OF THE "PALAWAN,"

A correspondant who has evinced the keenest interest in the recept Interport matches at Hoogkong and who assures us (Straits Timės) that he had no time to take a look tound the neighboating Crown colony during his visit, has favoured us with the following impressions.

TEAMS CRITICISKD:

I

The Hongkong cricket ground is, as many renders will know, a very small one. During the whole of the time the Straits cricketers were there, it was beautifully fine, if rather obilly on one or two days. The wicket was fast and easy throughout, though occasionally it bowlers, but, barng the Hongkong innings bumped a bit. It was disheartening work for

against Shanghai, the batting did coi come up to expectations; in fact, a good deal of it was rak bad. Bongkung have a good batting side, Pearce, being a very sound bat, while Edwards and Maundrell are fine hitters.

The Straits batting was disappointing, "ood the first pair (Eddis and Grenier, were about the only men that could be relied on. Zelinder played one good innings, as did Maarten, and Hennessy's batting was much more use- fol than a glance at the average would make one think. The injury to Hubback weakened the side in the Shanghai match, while McKenzie was quite out of farm both with bat and ball. The Shanghai balting was weak, Anderson being their best man,

represcotation. Barrett looked as if he still could make runs, but did not make many. Hoog-
